Looking back, most of my hobbies and pass times have always revolved around nature.
I love to feel the warmth of the sun, listen to the birds, watch water sparkle, the trees sway, breath the fresh air. I never thought about why I was so drawn to nature. I just knew I felt better in it. Calmer. Clearer. More grounded.
It wasn’t until recently, I began learning that humans are actually wired to respond to nature. Our nervous systems developed outdoors — surrounded by daylight, vegetation, water, fresh air, and natural movement. Nature doesn’t just look beautiful to us. It affects how we feel.
That realization changed the way I look at the spaces we spend our lives in. Modern life keeps us indoors most of the time — under artificial light, surrounded by screens, noise, stress, and hard surfaces — often disconnected from the very environments that help us feel our best. I founded Nature Matters KC to help bring that connection back into our everyday spaces. Not through high-maintenance live plants, but through real preserved moss and foliage that make it easy to bring nature indoors in a lasting, maintenance-free way.
What began as a creative passion quickly became something much deeper.
